Jennifer Horsman - Reading Partner/DOG TALES coordinator. Programs at Elk Meadow and Buckingham Emlementary Schools.
Jan Even reported on Buckingham School:
“We began our sessions for this school year on Oct. 10, and we visit Buckingham every Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 pm. Each Pet Partner team works one-on-one with two different students during that time, and we work with the same 2 students throughout the semester.
“Next semester we each get 2 new kids. Since there are now only 3 of us this semester, which means we can only serve 16 children at this school, but the principal has identified about 40 kids she would like to participate in R.E.A.D. We need 4-6 more volunteers to do that. Most of the children we work with are second-graders but this year we have a few first-graders as well. They are adorable and the school is very supportive and appreciative.

Alterra Facility: The Life Enrichment Coordinator at Alterra has renewed their two-year Facility Agreement with The Delta Society, and she has made a strong request on behalf of her residents:
“Alterra is a memory care community, we have the elderly with Alzheimer’s. Our residents just like to have short visits with any kind of animal. We are looking for somebody to come maybe once or twice a week for about 30 minutes or so just to walk around and greet our residents.”

Jennifer Horsman & Patches
“This dynamic duo takes Pet Therapy on the road, carrying a case load of up to 5 Hospice Center and Transitions patients at any given time. Additionally, many more Central Oregonians are touched by their good deeds when Jennifer and Patches visit other senior care facilities, St. Charles Medical Center, and local Elementary schools as a member of Compassionate Canines of Central Oregon, an affiliate group of The Delta Society.
“Jennifer and Patches are seasoned veterans at Hospice Center and Hospice House. They are proven communicators with our patients and their families, being strong patient advocates on several occasions, resulting in patients entering the Transitions program for assistance and navigational support through the medical system. Hospice Center team members thoroughly enjoy working with Jennifer & Patches and see them as great team members.
